Oklahoma City Attorney: Child Support
Under the laws of Oklahoma, a child is entitled to support from both parents. The amount of child support will be based on a number of factors, including:
- The income of each parent
- Day-care costs
- Child custody — the number of nights the child spends with each parent during a year
- Health and dental insurance premium costs
Child support is determined by a statutory formula. You should, however, have an experienced lawyer review your case and see that the right numbers have been used in the calculation. Family law issues, including custody, visitation and child support disputes, are generally resolved most successfully and inexpensively if the parties can reach an agreement to present to the court for approval. However, these highly emotional issues will affect your long-term financial security. As your lawyer, I will be prepared to go to court if necessary to see you receive a fair child support order.
I welcome calls from parties to military divorce. In addition to child support negotiations and petitions, I handle enforcement, including garnishment of wages, attachment, and arrearages of child support. If circumstances have changed significantly since your original child support order was issued, I will help you with an application for post-decree modification of child support or custody. If you are in the process of divorce, it is important to analyze the combined effects of division of property, child custody, child support and alimony/spousal support on your tax liability.
